I hardly ever take pictures any more. Am I just being an obstinate oldster, when people are so busy snapping everything in sight? It doesn't appeal to me at all. Here's why:
- I don't want to collect and organize more stuff, even if it's just electronic stuff.
- No kids, no need to leave an archive. The archive my parents left is umpteen boxes full of pictures of unknown people and unknown places.
- I'm happy with my life, but it's an ordinary life. What I do matters mainly just to me.
- I don't want to be one of those bores who can't wait to plant you in front of a screen for a few hours and show you the 1500 best shots from their last trip.
- If there's something interesting going on, I want to see it, hear it, smell it, set it in context. I don't want to be fiddling with a gizmo.
- If I really want to remember something, I'd rather write about it. Then I can pull in the whole experience, and feelings and reactions too.
- If it was really important, I'll remember it anyway.
