Here is a potpourri of programs and services to help you live independently in your own home.

Better Living Health and Community Services

During the pandemic, the following services are cancelled: Adult Day Program onsite at 1 Overland Drive, Better Living Community Centre onsite programs at 1 Overland Drive – Virtual Programs options are available, Caregiver Support Groups onsite at all locations, Community Group Exercise and Falls Prevention onsite programs located throughout the community, Community Programs onsite at 5 Deauville Lane, Community Fitness and Falls Prevention onsite classes located throughout the community, Facility rentals at all locations, Grief and Bereavement Support Groups at all locations, Membership Programs onsite at 1 Overland Drive – Virtual Programs options are available. The following essential services are still being provided in modified form: Adult Day Program – In-Home Respite Visits to current Adult Day Program Clients, Better Living Community Centre (Membership) – Daily virtual active living programs, Bereavement Support – Virtual Counselling Services, Case Management and Social Work Support – Being done via phone, Community Hospice – Virtual Visiting Services, Friendly Visiting – Virtual Visiting Services, Grocery Delivery, Home Maintenance Services – Lawn and Garden Care and Essential Home Maintenance and Repair Services, Home Support Services – Regular Home Support Services resumed on June 15th, 2020 (There is a wait list for new Home Support clients), Meals on Wheels, Medication Reminders and Prescription Pick up/Delivery, PalCare Education Services – hosting virtual education sessions, Personal Support Services, Transportation Services – essential medical rides and grocery shopping, Wellness Checks – regular check in calls to see how you are doing.

CANES Community Care (Central and Northern Etobicoke Home Support Services)

Personal support workers still provide home visits, observing physical distancing where possible and wearing personal protective equipment; family members are screened before each visit. Community programs are on hold. Rides to medical appointments continue.

Centres d'Accueil Héritage (CAH)

Services for French-speaking seniors and their caregivers living in the Greater Toronto Area. Adult day programs in Toronto and Oshawa During the pandemic, the following services are available: Adult day program in Toronto, operating for small groups on alternate days, assisted transportation to medical appointments, group lunches for small groups at individual tables, homemaking support n clients’ homes, support for transition from hospital to home. Active Living Centre is offering virtual activities through Zoom.

Homemakers and nurses services

For Toronto residents who need assistance with household activities of daily living, and who have limited financial resources. You may need to pay a portion of the cost.

Lumacare

Programs operating during the pandemic: adult day programs, assisted transportation, comfort packages of essential non-food items, dedicated Facebook group, grocery baskets, Healthier Living Centre with in-person and virtual exercise classes, Home at Last support for transition from hospital to home, home support, laundry services for high-risk population, live chat with staff member, meals on wheels, medication delivery, overnight respite care, shopping support, virtual social gatherings, wellness counseling. Programs suspended: group dining, non-essential assisted living services. Multiple locations in Downsview.

North York Seniors Centre

Programs operating during the pandemic: assisted transportation for groceries and medical appointments, Facebook group, grocery shopping and delivery, personal and home support, Senior Centre Without Walls via telephone. Senior Persons Living Connected

Programs operating during the pandemic: Active Living Centre virtual programs on YouTube, adult day programs by phone or YouTube, assisted living services, assisted transportation for medical appointments, cancer support group, care management, caregiver support, counseling and support services by phone, Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network team offer virtual and telephone visits, homemaking support, meals on wheels, mental health / wellbeing group, one on one consultation, personal care, seniors’ residence, spiritual support group, wellness check-ins by phone. Programs suspended: assisted transportation for shopping, friendly visiting, volunteer services. Programs in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Tamil.

Sidewalk snow-clearing

City of Toronto will clear your sidewalk for free if you are over 65, and no relatives under 65 live with you. Service available in some parts of Toronto, York and East York only.

SPRINT: Senior peoples' resources in North Toronto

Programs operating during the pandemic: assisted transportation, dementia care residence, food bank, grocery delivery, hygiene kit delivery, meals on wheels, personal and housekeeping support, pharmacy delivery, physician-led interdisciplinary care for homebound seniors by phone where possible, security and wellness checks by phone, virtual community wellness programs using Zoom or teleconference: ball and balance, chair yoga, core balance and stretch, games, gentle exercise, LGBT social group, low-impact cardio, mindful movement and meditation, muscle fitness, music and conversation, seated HIIT, social programs, stretch and strength, tai chi. Programs suspended: adult day program, in-person community wellness programs.
