Why a blog?

April 8, 2013

I'm a retired librarian, living on a modest pension in Toronto. When I retired and my income was cut in half, I was faced with the new retiree's dilemma: lots of time (finally!), lots of hopes and dreams, and very little discretionary income. So I set out to discover what was available in Toronto for people like me. I scoured the internet, visited community centres and senior centres, read a lot of pamphlets and guides for seniors, talked to my friends, and simply wandered through neighbourhoods. Pretty soon I had a Word document over 60 pages long. I thought that was too valuable to keep to myself. So I spent a few years learning to build a website to house and share these resources. Now that it's finally up and running, I'd like to start sharing my experiences on a blog. But I also know I'm missing a lot. So please tell me, all you Toronto seniors out there: What do you like to do? Where do you go to have fun? Where do you get together with friends? What's your favourite place to walk? How do you spend Sunday afternoons? How has your life changed since you retired?

There, I'm a blogger now! Watch this space.
